Communication is one of Lenormand’s clearest languages. Rider brings news. Letter gives it written form. Birds create conversation. Yet contact is not shown by one card alone.

The surrounding symbols tell you whether the message arrives, remains private, meets a delay, repeats an old argument or opens a more direct exchange. Card order matters because it shows whether silence is turning into movement or movement is closing down.

The four central communication cards

Rider shows news, arrival, movement or a person approaching. Letter shows texts, email, written messages, documents and recorded information. Birds show calls, conversation, quick exchange or worried talk. Book shows private, unknown or undisclosed information.

These cards describe different forms of communication. Rider is the movement. Letter is the written form. Birds are the live exchange. Book is what remains closed.

Cards that strengthen contact

• Key: decisive communication, confirmation or an answer that opens the situation.
• Sun: clear, visible and successful contact.
• Clover: a quick opening, brief reply or fortunate chance to speak.
• Stars: clear direction, online connection or communication through a network.
• Stork: a change in the communication pattern.
• Heart: affectionate, sincere or emotionally important words.

Cards that delay or limit communication

• Mountain: delay, block or difficulty reaching the other side.
• Tower: distance, isolation, formal channels or emotional separation.
• Clouds: mixed messages, uncertainty or misunderstanding.
• Coffin: stopped exchange, closure or a conversation that has gone inactive.
• Mice: messages reduced, missed, deleted or weakened by worry.
• Anchor: a fixed pattern, either stable contact or silence that remains unchanged.

• Birds + Rider: an active conversation approaches.
• Rider + Birds: news leads to a call, discussion or many quick messages.
• Birds + Heart: an emotional or romantic conversation.
• Birds + Whip: repeated debate, argument or intense exchange.
• Birds + Stars: online conversation, clear exchange or contact through a network.
• Birds + Garden: public discussion, group chat or social conversation.

Combinations for silence or no contact

• Tower + Letter: distant, formal or isolated communication.
• Mountain + Letter: blocked message or delayed reply.
• Coffin + Letter: communication ends, goes inactive or receives no continuation.
• Book + Letter: a message remains private, unread or undisclosed.
• Mice + Letter: reduced communication, missing details or a message weakened by worry.
• Anchor + Letter: an established communication pattern, which may mean regular contact or silence remaining fixed.

Do not read Tower or Coffin alone as permanent silence. The next card shows whether the pattern holds or changes.

• Coffin + Rider: movement begins after a stopped period.
• Tower + Rider: someone approaches after distance or isolation.
• Mountain + Stork: the obstacle changes or another route becomes possible.
• Clouds + Key: uncertainty clears through decisive information.
• Book + Key: hidden information opens or becomes known.
• Crossroads + Letter: a choice leads to contact, or more than one message path appears.

How order changes the story

Coffin + Rider can show movement after silence. Rider + Coffin can show news that stops, an arrival that closes the matter or communication reaching an ending.

Mountain + Letter emphasizes a message blocked by an obstacle. Letter + Mountain emphasizes communication that reaches delay or resistance after it begins.

The first card starts the phrase. The final card shows where it lands.

A three-card spread for contact

1. Current communication pattern: what is active now?
2. What opens or blocks contact: the central condition.
3. Likely development: what the pattern moves toward within the stated time frame.

Example: Tower + Birds + Key. The present field is distant or isolated. Conversation becomes the central action. Key says the exchange is important and can bring certainty. The line supports communication after distance, but it does not identify a guaranteed sender without the original question and context.

Ask a question the cards can answer clearly

“What is developing around communication between us over the next four weeks?” is more useful than repeating “Will they text today?” each morning. The wider question shows the pattern, the block and the form of movement.
